Our guides undergo rigorous training in advanced first aid, diligently monitoring your well-being throughout the mountainous journey. They regularly assess vital signs, including oxygen levels, pulse, and blood pressure, with the provision of emergency oxygen if required. With Everyday Safaris guides, the summit success rate stands at an impressive 98%. Their infectious positivity, manifested through uplifting songs and encouragement, significantly motivates climbers on their journey to the summit.

Upon the return of our clients, expressions of awe, exhaustion, wonder, and delight encapsulate their experience. The collaborative efforts of our guides, porters (both male and female), and cooks receive consistent praise for their helpfulness and spirited demeanour. Our skilled cooks craft a delectable array of fresh meals, catering to diverse dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and accommodating food allergies.

Everyday Safaris upholds the principles of Sustainable Travel in Tanzania, embodying ethical Kilimanjaro Climbs. Ethical climbs involve responsible treks, acknowledging the tourism industry’s role in enhancing the lives of those around Kilimanjaro, particularly the guides and porters crucial to summit success. Environmental sustainability and social responsibility are integral to our ethos, steering clear of exploitative practices associated with cheap climbs.

Tipping Guidelines:

  • Guide: $20 to $30 per day
  • Assistant Guide: $15 to $20 per day
  • Chef: $15 to $20 per day
  • Porters: $5 to $7 per day per porter

Additional Tips:

Certain porters may have extra responsibilities (e.g., tent master, waiter, toilet attendant). An additional $3/day is recommended for such roles. Summit porters, with specific duties on summit day, deserve an extra $20/trip per porter.

Tipping is done as a collective contribution from the group, and the suggested amounts can be adjusted at your discretion. Your feedback on staff performance and tipping preferences is appreciated post-climb.

Staff Composition Examples

  • Solo Climb: 1 guide, 1 cook, 5-6 porters
  • Group of 2: 1 guide, 1 assistant guide, 1 cook, 8-10 porters
  • Group of 3: 1 guide, 1 assistant guide, 1 cook, 12-14 porters

  • Group of 8: 1 guide, 3 assistant guides, 1 cook, 25-27 porters
  • Group of 10: 1 guide, 3 assistant guides, 1 cook, 30-33 porters

The porter count depends on the total weight of all gear, encompassing tents, food, utensils, and climb staff gear.

Porters Wellfare

The mistreatment of porters can be a troubling challenge in the climbing industry. We are an approved Partner company with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project – KPAP – and the International Mountain Explorers Connection – IMEC – Partner for Responsible Travel Program.

We voluntarily participate with KPAP’s monitoring activities and allow KPAP to evaluate the treatment of our porters on all of our climbs. By climbing with us you can be assured that your porters are well taken care of.

KPAP also helps to improve the working conditions of porters by:

  • Lending donated clothing at no charge to the mountain crew for use while climbing
  • Offering educational classes to porters
  • Educating the public on porter working conditions and climbing responsibly
  • Providing industry guidelines for proper porter treatment

Please consider supporting KPAP by making a financial contribution to enable them to continue with their Partner for Responsible Travel Program and free services for porters. To donate, please visit https://kiliporters.org/support-our-work-donate/
