Overview

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a dream that beckons adventurers, mountaineers, and travelers from around the globe. Standing as the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, welcoming all who seek an extraordinary outdoor experience.

The Lemosho Route: A Trail of Spectacular Beauty

Among the various routes leading to Kilimanjaro's summit, the Lemosho Route is revered for its breathtaking scenic beauty. It offers an unparalleled journey through diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, enchanting moorlands, and the otherworldly alpine desert. As one of the lengthiest routes on Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho Route is designed to allow climbers ample time for altitude acclimatization, increasing the chances of a successful summit.

 A Remote and Picturesque Experience

The Lemosho Route is a newer path, characterized by its remoteness, striking landscapes, and relatively higher cost compared to other routes. The adventure commences on the mountain's western side, at the Lemosho Gate. This location, further from Moshi town, provides an exceptional opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in nature's grandeur.

The Ultimate Journey to the Summit

The route starts amidst captivating forests and misty moorlands, gradually climbing through the Shira Plateau on the third day. Here, it merges with the Machame Route at Lava Tower, setting you on a course for Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit. The Lemosho Route's longer duration allows for better acclimatization, making it a preferred choice for many climbers. With this advantage, the route boasts a higher success rate in reaching the Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point.

In the heart of Tanzania's wilderness, the Lemosho Route offers adventurers a unique opportunity to witness the majesty of Kilimanjaro's landscapes. The lush forests, mystical moorlands, and dramatic alpine deserts make this route a dream for nature lovers and photographers alike.

Whether you're a seasoned mountaineer seeking a new challenge or a traveler yearning to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, the Lemosho Route awaits, offering you the chance to reach the summit of Africa's highest mountain. Book your Kilimanjaro adventure and journey to the roof of Africa on the magnificent Lemosho Route. Don't miss out on this spectacular experience!

Our adventure continues to the seldom-visited Moir Hut, situated at the foot of the imposing Lent Hills.

Here, a plethora of trails await, offering an excellent opportunity for acclimatization. Shira, one of the loftiest plateaus on the planet, captivates us with its majesty. We find solace for the night at Shira Hut, where we partake in a hearty meal and rest.

An early dinner is served, followed by a period of rest as we gear up for the summit night. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at Barafu Camp.

Descent to: 3106m/10,190ft

Altitude lost: 2789m.

Anticipation mounts as dawn breaks, commencing our journey in the wee hours between the stroke of midnight and the second hour. This segment of the expedition is the most taxing, both mentally and physically.

We persist on our path to the apex, navigating between the Rebman and Ratzel glaciers, striving to maintain warmth and focus on the imminent sense of achievement. We zigzag in a north westerly direction, ascending through dense scree towards Stella Point on the crater’s edge. Here, we are greeted with a breath-taking sunrise during a brief respite. The more fleet-footed among us may even witness the sunrise from the summit. From this point, a snow-laden, hour-long climb awaits us to reach Uhuru Peak.

Kudos to you! With each step, you’ve ascended to Uhuru Peak, the pinnacle of Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in all of Africa!

After indulging in celebrations, capturing memories, and perhaps shedding tears of joy, we take a moment to bask in this monumental achievement. We then commence our steep descent to Mweka Camp, pausing at Barafu for a quick lunch and rest. Gaiters and trekking poles are strongly recommended for the challenging terrain of loose gravel and volcanic ash. A well-earned rest awaits you at Mweka Camp, your final evening on the mountain.

Day 9 : Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi: 9.1km/6mi | 3-4hrs | Day 9: Rainforest

Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633 m/5358 ft

Altitude lost: 1473m.

Following an early breakfast well earned, a brief, scenic 3-hour hike returns us to the park gate. At Mweka gate, you’ll inscribe your name and details in a register. This is where triumphant climbers receive their summit certificates. Climbers who reached Stella Point (5685 m) are awarded green certificates, while those who made it to Uhuru Peak (5895 m) are bestowed with gold certificates.

Then comes the time to revel in your achievement with your guides and porters. Back at your hotel, a well-deserved shower awaits you. Post-refreshment, the celebration continues with your guides and porters. For those who indulge, a Kilimanjaro beer, or perhaps a soda, serves as a fitting toast to your successful ascent to Africa’s highest point! The guides will serenade you with Kilimanjaro songs, adding to the jubilant atmosphere and making your journey truly memorable.
