Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), is a spectacular volcanic mountain in Arusha National Park. Often overshadowed by its famous neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro, this hidden gem offers aless crowded, scenic, and rewarding trek for both seasoned hikers and first-time climbers.
Whether preparing for a Kilimanjaro ascent or seeking a challenging yet scenic adventure, Mount Meru is an excellent choice. The trek takes you through diverse ecosystems, from dense rainforests teeming with wildlife to alpine deserts and breathtaking ridgelines. It culminates in the incredible sunrise from Socialist Peak, which offers panoramic views of Kilimanjaro.
Welcome to Tanzania! Our team will greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and drive you to the tranquil Babylon Lodge, nestled at the base of Kilimanjaro. After check-in, enjoy dinner and relax in the cool mountain air.

After breakfast, we drive to Arusha National Park, where your climb begins. At Momella Gate, you’ll meet your armed park ranger and begin the scenic hike through lush montane forest. Spot giraffes, buffalo, and colobus monkeys along the trail!
Wake up to birdsong and forest mist before ascending through the heather zone. The trail opens to incredible views of Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. Optional afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820m) to aid acclimatization.

Midnight wake-up for your summit attempt under the stars—an exhilarating and challenging climb to Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru.
Arrive at sunrise to witness unforgettable panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Ash Cone Crater, and the Great Rift Valley.
Descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut for a well-earned rest.
Trekking time: 10–12 hours
Overnight at Miriakamba Hut
Final descent through the forest trail back to Momella Gate.
Receive your Climbing certificate and enjoy a celebratory picnic lunch.
Transfer back to Babylon Lodge for a relaxing evening and hot shower.
Dinner and overnight onhalf board basis.
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight or continue with an Optional safari or Zanzibar beach extension.
